Hi Guys, I read the article in Globe,(Diaspora prompts a reunion March 25)and I am happy to know that many of my former "homies" are getting together. I used to live on Almont St. and my wife on Fesiden St. My work takes me back to Mattapan and Dorchester every so often and I can't help it reminisce the late sixties.

For the Outdoors in You!!
Anyone looking to get in shape riding a bike? I am trying to get a group going in the Stoughton-Easton-Sharon area. . If you know of someone have them give me call at 781 344 7581
This will be a moderate speed group (avg. 14-17 mi/hour) and cycling distances of 20+mi each ride. The actual route will be at the discretion of the group. Typically, we choose side roads and go for a couple of hours. Sunday mornings, weekday afternoons after 5 PM, depending who is available. Road bike is ideal but a mountain bike with smooth tires will work too. Helmet is a must, water bottle, and you're good to go. Thank you.

I found the Mattapan Friends Association site by accident and it brought back a flood of memories. It's great to see so many folks in the photo section. I didn't know there were so many former Mattapan residents who got together.

Several years ago, I took my kids on a drive-through tour of Mattapan. We drove in from Milton up the Avenue, down Almont, and Alabama Street (where I grew up). The nostalgia I had anticipated was not there; only the anger and saddness of seeing what happened to a once proud community. Alabama was barely passable with dumpsters overflowing trash into the street. One of my boys turned to the others and said "Dad grew up in the hood." It was difficult to explain what happened and still be politically correct. It was much easier to explain what Mattapan once was - a real neighborhood.

It was great to find this website and to see that the "neighborhood" still exists in the people that used to live there.

I look forward to seeing old friends at the 2007 reunion. Al Cusher (09/20/06)

MATTAPAN SOUTH...THE FLORIDA GROUP

We started years ago as a meager few, some meeting here & some meeting there. Now we've grown into a nice little gang that gets together for dinner or a 'day at the beach' (okay, so it's not Kenberma.....but we can do it all year) and every year it seems to grow larger as more of the gang relocates, visits or becomes snowbirds. If you're interested in joining us, just contact us and we'll let you know of our next get together. You'd be surprised 'who' lives here & the fun we have! See you all at The Mattapan Friends Reunion on May 26th, 2007.
